Summer in the city

July and August are normally the months most people have their vacations and many expats are leaving Taiwan to spend some time with family and friends in their home country. It can also be that family and friends are coming to visit this beautiful island, perhaps for the first time.

During this time Taiwan is dazzling with flowers, and even more so since Taipei is hosting the Taipei International Floral Exposition starting in November this year. A lot of preparation is on going from new venues to safety doors at the mass-rapid-transit system (MRT). Talking about the MRT, this is the best way to get around in Taipei, it's fast, safe and easy accessible and taxis are always to be found next to the exits.

It will be warm if not hot in Taiwan during this time. Make sure you drink a lot of water and why not try one of Taiwan's very good tomato juices, see page 40.

Shopping is always on the list, whether you go home for vacation or you will receive guests. Taiwan has an excellent cosmetic line Vinata, see pages 16 and 73. Our shopping page for Taipei is 26.

Excursions to another place on the island are definitely a must and can be made over the day or last for many days. Taiwan this Month has many suggestions in this magazine and even more on the web page: www.taiwanthismonth.com

Chinese restaurants are to be found around the world, but they normally adjust their cooking to accommodate the local taste. So before you leave, or when your family is here you might want to go out for a real authentic Chinese meal. Make sure you know what kind of cooking style you would like, since the variety is endless within the Chinese kitchen. We have some suggestions on page 22 for Taipei but many more on our web page: www.taiwanthismonth.com

I wish you all a safe and happy summer!
