Taipei

is now preparing itself for the "Taipei International Flora Exposition" from November 2010 - April 2011. Many beauty treatments are being given to the city's parks, along roads, overpasses etc. The mass-rapid-transit system (MRT) is also in for improvement with more safety sliding doors being installed at some of the stations. During peak hours, the MRT is the fastest way to get around even though taxis are easy, accessible, safe and cheap. The Taipei Main Station is the hub for all trains, including the high-speed rail, which speeds its way to Kaohsiung in the south in just 90 minutes. Direct flights between Taipei Songshan Airport and Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport began in June and are expected to draw many commuters looking to shorten their traveling time. City Hall Bus Station is going to open, connecting the Xinyi district with a walkway allowing quick and easy access by MRT.

Another claim to fame is the Taipei 101 Tower - for a while, the world's tallest building. The 508-meter skyscraper possesses the most advanced technologies such as state-of-the-art, pressurized, high-speed elevators and a 660-metric-ton damper to reduce swaying during earthquakes and typhoons. It houses offices of well-known multinationals and the most famous and luxurious brands in the adjoining shopping center.

Taipei is most definitely a Cyber City and has blossomed into a city of 2.63 million with more than 1 million scooters and 650,000 cars, more than 4,000 wireless internet access points, the densest wireless coverage in the world and the largest public Wi-Fi grid. It has, however, the cleanest air of any city in Greater China or Southeast Asia as well as a very low crime rate.

One of Taiwan's greatest attractions is the National Palace Museum, which houses over 650,000 pieces of Chinese bronze, jade, calligraphy, painting, and porcelain. The collection is so extensive that only 1% is on display at any one time.

There are many temples with Longshan Temple one of the most visited and oldest, situated in the older part of Taipei, in Wanhua district. This temple is surrounded by traditional shops selling antiques, Chinese medicine and so on, a neighborhood highly recommended for tourists.
