Summer is coming

May means that the weather is getting warmer and we need to change our wardrobe. Traveling to Taiwan means you can travel light and leave all the winter clothes at home. Why not take a chance for some good deals when you are here? On page 32, we give you some ideas on where to go for shopping and also how to read the discount signs in Taiwan, which are different from other places.

A very special shopping trip is to one of Taipei's antique stores, Cherry Hill. I am sure everyone would like to take home some gifts while abroad, and at Cherry Hill, a whole range of items will fit in your suitcase. And for those of us who have stayed here for a long time and might need some repairwork done, this is the place to go, see page 38.

Talking about those who have been here for a while, Taipei American School is reminding us about them and would like us to think of them as a "bridge to the world", see page 39.

On Sunday, May 9, Taiwan is celebrating Mother's Day. Having said that, I guess you understand that the normally busy restaurant scene will be bustling with people especially on that day. We give you some suggestions of where to go for a good dinner in different price ranges - and remember to make a reservation. See page 22 and 23.

The ocean is always fascinating, challenging and full of activities. Since Taiwan is an island, we are surrounded by water that's waiting to be explored. Yilan, just one hour away from Taipei, does have a lot to offer when it comes to water-based activities. Among others, there are whale and dolphin tours. Read more about it on page 60.

A friendly reminder to those of you who need to file their income tax : May is the month to do so.
