Holiday Season in Taiwan

The month of December is the holiday season in the western calendar when both Christmas and New Year are celebrated. Over the years these holidays have become more and more widely accepted and celebrated in Taiwan as well. You will find Christmas decorations, gifts, special food items, cultural events and much more focusing on the holidays. Check out our shopping and entertainment pages for more details.

For those of us coming from the northern hemisphere who like cooler weather for this season, they may find it in Taiwan too. Normally temperatures do drop in Taipei and we can dress a bit warmer. The streets are also getting decorated and Santa will show up where you least expect him!

Many hotels will feature Christmas food in their restaurants and for New Year's Eve, many parties and countdowns will be held. Make sure to make a reservation for your dinner during this time of year. To give you some ideas on where to eat, please check our Restaurant Section from page 21 onwards.

Normally there is no problem with transportation in Taipei, but on New Year's Eve it can be. Some parts of the city might have restricted traffic due to any big event and many more people are out on the street celebrating the New Year. To get a taxi coming home late at night might be a problem. Check it out with your hotel or friends to plan ahead.

Naturally, Taiwan does have much more to offer and in this month's issue you will learn more about Taichung, this wonderful city in the middle of the island. Here you find "happenings"! Everything from cultural events and fine dining to special shopping.

Another city that is a must to see is Lugang in Changhua. Find out more on our back page.

If for any reason you need to contact your Embassy or Representative Office when in Taiwan, we are happy to inform you about their address and contact number in our magazine.

Season's Greetings!
