Chiayi Distillery was founded in 1916. The famous and high-quality Kaoliang chiew was successfully developed in 1950. Chiayi Distillery can be called the origin of Kaoliang chiew in Taiwan.

The new plant of Chiayi Distillery was inaugurated in 1998 and the Liquor Culture Hall was also open to the public. To meet competition from the private business, enterprise transformation and association with tourism and leisure, Yusan Kaoliang Chiew Culture Park has been established. The Liquor Culture Hall introduces cultures of chiew manufacturing, vessels and liquor. It also shows the historical documents and pieces in bilingual, Chinese and English. The process of making the famous and high-quality Kaoliang chiew is displayed to explain for the world when exporting to the international market.
